This is the latest news coming from the most recent trade fairs, from Automechanika, which was held in Dubai from June 3–7, to Metef (Verona 11–13 June). The automotive market is emerging as the future market for metals producers, particularly of aluminium, considering that estimates from today to 2020 foresee a doubling in the use of aluminium in components for the automotive market. It is no coincidence that just this year Metef opened Alumotive, an area dedicated to aluminium in automotive applications.
New avenues for business are on the increase in the automotive industry. Considering that in 2013 the revenue generated by Italian automotive components neared 40 billion, of which approximately 19 billion was exports, it’s clear that it represents a positive segment of Italy’s trade balance. If more than half of total exports go to European countries, Asian markets are also destinations for this segment: China, the primary market, followed by Japan, India and South Korea. However, the market in the Arab countries has yet to be fully developed.
Vittorio Trolese, president of Braking System, a Padua company that produces an innovative, intelligent braking system for heavy vehicles, who was present at Automechanika in Dubai and at Metef, says: “In the Middle East a very important automotive market awaits us. The importance of braking equipment components is growing, when one takes into account the development currently underway in the transport sector in Arab countries (metro, train, tram, etc.). Good braking is a good way to save energy and fuel, not to mention safety issues, considering that in the Arab world public and heavy transport accidents often go unmonitored”. Made in Italy, also in the friction materials sector, is succeeding where others have never yet dared to go.
